Breaking out and Breaking down the Echo Chambers

Hate flourishes online as algorithms segment people into silos where they see and hear only their own worldviews without being challenged by differing perspectives.

Minister Virani has been engaged in the fight against all forms of hate online for many years. His role as Minister of Justice & Attorney General of Canada has now given him a central role in this fight.

Kasim Hafeez, who was once involved in spreading hate and extremism, now uses his platform to educate about tolerance and acceptance.

Joel Finkelstein will reveal the relationship between online hate and real-world violence, with examples and revelations about online and offline antisemitism.

Kasim Hafeez is British of Pakistani Muslim heritage, exposed to radical anti-Western, antisemitic, and anti-Israel ideas, becoming a teenager active in radical Islamist ideology and the anti-Israel movement. Alan Dershowitz’s The Case for Israel led him to Israel in 2007 to witness the true nature of the Jewish state. He felt a moral obligation to speak out for Israel and about the dangers of radical Islam. He has spoken internationally, including at the 2013 Global Forum on Combatting Antisemitism and before the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. Kasim also appears alongside Holocaust survivor Irving Roth in CUFI’s full-length feature documentary Never Again?.
